Salvation

I used to love you more than  life itself,
A time so long ago that I forgot.
Today I’m just a miserable self.
But  then again, I haven’t yet forgot.

I am not like the other people here,
But solitude has been my greatest gift.
I journeyed by myself and found you near;
You gave this lonely hitchhiker a lift.

I used to always rush to what is new,
But there’s been nothing new since I found you.
Found in you, through you, I was made anew.
And I’ve been made anew again, tonight.

Do you still love me more than life itself?
Do you still love me, Joe, the miserable self?
